It is has been one week since I announced the need to make a change in my life, and changes are already happening. In this first week I have lost 3 pounds. I am now down to 321 pounds. It isn’t a major loss, but it is progress. There is no magic pill for what happened this week. I am not really sure what happened. I weighted myself on Tuesday and I was down 3 pounds.
What was the difference?
There were two things different that happened during this last week and I believe both of them had and will continue to have an affect on what I do over the course of the next months and year ahead.
The first thing was that I made my issue public. I quit hiding my weight. No one can guess, “How much does that guy weigh?” I have put it out there and will continue to put it out there. I have made myself accountable to not only my friends, but anyone else who sees what I am doing. Being held accountable for one’s own actions seems to be a rare thing.
The second thing I did was actually paid attention to what I was putting in my mouth. While I didn’t do this 100% of the time, I would say that 75% or more of the time, I paid attention to what I was eating. I believe I may have had 2 or 3 sodas throughout the week. While it is still soda, it is much less than what I normally drink.
What happens next?
Now I continue to take one day at a time. For this week, I am going to focus on totally removing soda from what I drink and focus on water. As I stated, I have been previously cutting down on soda and was replacing it with diet drinks, but my goal is to eventually get rid of those as well. The artificial sweeteners can do damage to the body as well.
I am also putting together fitness goals for the next few weeks. Cutting down on calories and food only does so much. I need to increase the amount of calories I burn as well as begin to work on building muscle. These things will allow me to have more energy and enjoy time with my wife and boys.
